Burleson, Texas

Magee Architects was commissioned to design a fire station and administrative offices for the city’s fire department with a distinct separation between each. To this end, the apparatus bays were oriented parallel to the street and serve as the division between the fire station wing and the administrative wing. To take advantage of the separation between the two wings of the building, a landscaped courtyard was created that features a large glass wall to showcase the fire trucks housed inside the apparatus bays.

The station features a large training room, kitchen, three bunk rooms, showers & restrooms, administrative offices, and a 10,000 SF garage to accommodate up to 10 fire fighting vehicles.  The design of the apparatus bays uses the large glass curtain wall and clerestory windows to reduce the amount of light usage required in the bays. During a typical day, there is no need for any artificial lights within the apparatus bays.

The fire station was completed in 2002.
